Choose Your Business Type

Choose Shop / Retail, Services / Projects or Both, find tools in More, and change the workspace layout without changing your records or your team's permissions.

On this page

Put the tools you use most near the front of InvoiceKaro. The workspace owner can choose Shop / Retail, Services / Projects, or Both. The choice changes navigation and shortcuts, while your customers, invoices, products, projects, payments and saved offline bills stay in place.

Existing workspaces and older app versions
On a computer, a workspace without a chosen business type keeps its existing menu. The updated phone layout always uses Home, Invoices, Customers and More, subject to your role. Older installed Android releases may still show five or six tabs. Follow the labels in your installed version; changing a business type does not update the app itself.

Choose the closest fit

The computer layouts also have Dashboard, Reports, More and Settings. On a phone, the dashboard tab is called Home. Your role still controls which tools you can open; a business type does not change permissions, plan limits or paid access.

During signup

  1. 1Verify your phone number or email address.
  2. 2Fill in your business name, owner name and state, then choose Shop / Retail, Services / Projects, or Both.
  3. 3Select Complete Setup. To finish the details later, choose Skip for Now. Skipping keeps a type you already selected; if you did not select one, it keeps the existing computer menu and shortcuts. The phone still uses the same four tabs.

Choose or change it in Settings

  1. 1Connect to the internet and sign in as the workspace owner.
  2. 2On a computer, open Settings → Business type. On a phone, open More → Settings and find Business type, even if no type is selected yet.
  3. 3Select the choice you want, then select Save business type. Selecting a card alone does not save the change.
  4. 4Wait for the saved confirmation. Another already-open device may need a reload while online to show the new layout.

If your workspace has not chosen a type, the owner can also use Choose your business type on the dashboard. Keep current layout for now leaves the business type unset, retaining the existing computer menu and shortcuts. The phone still uses four tabs. Team members can see the choice but cannot save a different one.

Your records stay in place
Changing type does not delete or convert customers, invoices, quotations, products, stock, projects or payments. Saved offline bills remain with the same business and staff account on the same device. Do not clear site data or uninstall the app to change layouts.

Find tools in More

Every phone workspace uses Home, Invoices, Customers, More, including one without a chosen type; tabs still depend on your role. Open More for Payments, Quick Bill, Quotations, Projects, Product Catalog, Inventory, Scan Bill, Reports and Settings. The Payments shortcut on Home also opens payments when your role allows it. On a computer, a tool may be directly in the left menu as well as in More.

Retail and Both keep Quick Bill close at hand. Services emphasizes New Invoice, with Quick Bill still available through More. Dashboard Quick Actions also match your chosen type.

Offline billing and device storage

Use Settings → Offline billing on a computer, or More → Settings → Offline billing on a phone, with or without a chosen business type. Preparation, readiness, saved bills, Sync now and Device storage are all there. See Offline billing.

The choice does not prepare another browser or move pending bills to it. Enable offline billing separately while online in each browser or device you use. Keep the app open to sync after reconnecting. The limits remain 200 unsynced bills and 20 recent synced copies on a device.

Projects and Overview

The area previously called Collect is now Projects. It opens the project list by default for milestones, proof of work and client approvals. Roles with analytics access can also open Overview for payment health. A remembered Overview tab does not give another teammate analytics access.

Does Services stop me selling products?+
No. Open More for the other tools your role and plan allow. Business type sets what appears first.
Why did nothing change when I picked a card?+
Select Save business type and wait for confirmation. If the save fails, the previous choice remains; reconnect and try again.
Why can I not change the business type?+
Only the workspace owner saves this choice. It applies to the team; each teammate keeps their existing role permissions.
Where did my old tools go?+
On a phone, check More for Payments, Projects, Settings and the other tools your role allows. A computer workspace without a saved type keeps its existing menu. Older installed apps may still use five or six phone tabs.
